NextGen MyCare Ohio Rollout - What it Means For you!
Major Changes Coming to MyCare Ohio in 2026
Georgetown, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Medicaid has announced that MyCare Ohio, the state’s managed care program for individuals who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, will transition into a new model called Next Generation MyCare Ohio beginning January 1, 2026.
The Next Generation model is designed to improve care coordination, simplify benefits, and expand services for the thousands of Ohioans who rely on MyCare for their healthcare needs.
These changes will take effect between now and June 1, 2026 for Brown County.
Key Program Changes
- New Managed Care Options – Four health plans have been selected to serve as Next Generation MyCare organizations. Some members may be reassigned to new plans.
- Improved Integration – Benefits will be more closely aligned between Medicare and Medicaid, reducing billing confusion and care gaps.
- Expanded Coverage – Certain Medicaid benefits that were optional in the past will now be standard under the new model.
- Phased Rollout – The transition begins in 29 counties already served by MyCare Ohio, with additional counties to follow.
What This Means for Members
Members will continue to receive both Medicare and Medicaid benefits, but the way those benefits are delivered may change. According to state officials, the overall goal is to create a smoother, more person-centered experience.
For example, “Mary,” a 72-year-old MyCare member from southern Ohio who manages diabetes, currently navigates multiple phone numbers and confusing billing statements. Under the new model, Mary will have a single care team, improved benefit alignment, and fewer unexpected bills — making her care more efficient and less stressful for both her and her family.
